Dealing with Corporate Blocking Policies
- Instant messaging of any kind is blocked. Limits getting a quick answer from a vendor or someone who can advise me.
- Picada and a couple of other online productivity tools are blocked.
- Some standard news sites are blocked. Limits research capability.
- Anything listed as online storage and social media is locked. For instance, I have networking contacts on Ning, Wetpaint, and Facebook, who I might need to contact for a scrap of advice to finish a task, but these are blocked.
I wish this weren’t a factor for us but unfortunately many of us are blocked from useful online tools. 8-(
I like the concept of this. Guy Kawasaki’s 10-20-30 rule says that a PowerPoint presentation should have ten slides, last no
more than twenty minutes, and contain no font smaller than thirty
points. I think Merlin Mann of 43folders said it best…”Get in, get out, and don’t make people squint. Awesome.”

This chart shows how elearning is shifting…what does it mean for your organization?
Although the items I viewed were somewhat truncated, this is a fantastic idea for pulling information from one source and providing it in a variety of different formats automatically.
Plus, there is a lot of good training content available here as well. The sections I’m really looking at are related to electricity generation, transmission & distribution…along with training of course!
Go see Training Packages Unwrapped and see if you can find something worthwhile for yourself.

This has come in handy for getting interviews from a tape recorder into a digital format. May not be for everyone but it’s definitely a great tip to file away in case you ever need it.

Here is a list of helpful shortcuts you can use with the Windows key:
Windows key — Displays START menu
Windows key + d — Shows the Desktop. Repeated, it restores the previous windows that were being displayed
Windows key + e — Opens a new Windows Explorer window

Windows key + m — Minimizes all windows
Windows key + shift + m — Undo Minimize all
Windows key + Shift + m — Restores windows minimized by previous command
